General Information

Welcome to the Jessie Ball duPont Library! The primary mission of the Library is to provide the members of the academic community with access to resources that support the current and anticipated instructional, research, and service programs of the University of the South. In addition, the Library contributes to the culture and informational resources of the surrounding community.

The duPont library building was constructed in 1965 and houses the fully integrated collections for the University’s College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Theology.  The combined collections include more 784,000 print volumes and 133,000 media titles.  As one of the oldest federal documents depositories in the state, beginning in 1873, the library contains over 268,000 government publications. The library also provides access to over 622,000 electronic books or texts, over 300 online research databases, and has over 10,000 journal subscriptions, the majority of which are available online.

Please Note: Materials in the duPont Library are selected on the basis of suitability to support the various academic programs of The University of the South. The University assumes no responsibility for the materials viewed, accessed, or borrowed from its library. We urge our patrons and parents of children with borrowing privileges to use their own discretion when using library resources including the Internet.
