Library Services for Faculty

A guide to the many and multi-faceted library services to faculty at Sewanee

Books and Media

All academic departments can purchase books and media (video and audio) in either printed or electronic form for the library collection. We ask that all your orders be submitted by April 15th before the end of the fiscal year.

All new tenure-track faculty receive special funds that can be spent over a 3 year period. These funds allow new faculty to help build the library collection in their specific areas of interest and research.

Requests may be submitted by email to acquisitions@sewanee.edu, or by using the form that is linked at the top of the page.  Please make sure your name and your department’s name is on the material.

If you need a title by a specific date, please let us know that. The more lead time we have in getting an order placed, the better we are able to serve you.

Periodicals and Online Resources

Requests for serials (anything that requires a subscription, or recurring cost) are charged to our Acquisitions budget. We normally purchase online subscriptions for periodicals, unless a title is not available online, or unless the faculty member making the request has a strong reason to get the title in print.

We prefer that you use the Periodical and Online Resource Request Form (link at top of page) to request new subscriptions. These requests are reviewed by our Information Resources Management Team, and decisions are made based on our current subject coverage and available funds. For databases we may suggest a trial subscription before we commit to an order.
