Varieties of Research Experience

What are Tertiary Sources?

Tertiary sources offer brief overview or background information on a subject. They are generally used at the beginning of the research process and do not provide sufficient detail to be major sources in college-level research. Nevertheless, tertiary sources are important pathfinders in the research process to locate more in-depth information. Examples of tertiary sources include encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, and manuals.
