Go to this link:
First you will get the OpenAthens login screen:
Choose the Sewanee Single Sign On option and sign in to your account. (Your email address without @sewanee.edu, with the password you use for Banner and for your email account.) Note: You may be shown this screen instead of the first one.
You will then get this screen:
Click on Create Account.
You will then get this screen:
Ignore the Google, Facebook, and Apple logins. Instead, enter your Sewanee email address and choose your own password for your NYT account. (You do not have to use your Sewanee password.)
You will then get this screen:
Student accounts will expire on December 31 of your graduation year. Faculty and staff accounts will expire in four years, and you will need to renew it after that time. (See renewal instructions below.)
You can now go to the regular NYT website at https://www.nytimes.com/ from any computer in any network and log in with your new account for full access.
Faculty and staff accounts need to be renewed every four years. To renew your account when it has expired, first go to same link given above for the initial activation:
and log in as before.
Instead of clicking on "Create Account" click on "Already have an account? Log in here."
Use your existing credentials to log in. If you have forgotten your password, there will be a "Forgot your password?" prompt after you enter your email address, and you'll be able to reset it.
This will renew your pass for another four years.
Your New York Times All Access Academic Pass provides full access to NYT apps; visit http://nytimes.com/mobile to download. To access these apps, users must first create a New York Times account, and claim the Academic All Access Pass. These apps can be found in the major app stores for Android, Apple, and Google.
Through the University's NYT Academic Pass, patrons also have access to The Athletic. The Athletic delivers powerful stories and smart analysis that bring sports fans closer to the heart of the game.
To access this resource, users must first create a New York Times account, and claim the Academic All Access Pass. Then follow these steps:
Go to theathletic.com, and click log in on the top right of the screen. You will the be directed to the below screen:
To access The Athletic, and link it to your Academic All Access Pass, you must log in using the "Continue with The New York Times" option. This will link your NYT account with your new Athletic account.
In the next screen, it will ask you to log in using your New York TImes account.
The first time you log in to The Athletic, you will be require to confirm your account with a code. You will recieve an email like below, and enter this code into the webpage.
Once you have entered the code, your Athletic account will be confirmed. You will always need to log in to The Athletic using the "Continue with The New York Times" option, but you should not be required to confirm your account by the email code other than when you first set up your account.
In addition to all of the content available on NYTimes.com, Sewanee also has access to a companion resource called the New York Times in Education. This site is designed to help faculty and students identify ways to incorporate NYTimes.com content into the curriculum and connect the real world to the classroom.
This site is located at nytimes.com/spotlight/nytimesineducation. Students and faculty can access the tool while logged in to their New York Times account—they don't need to save multiple passwords or navigate away from The Times.
InEducation now provides curated reading lists, updated weekly during the academic year, across 12 disciplines of study. Students can explore journalism relevant to their courses and academic interests, and professors can use these as jumping off points for classroom assignments, readings, and discussions.
These reading lists include all The Times has to offer—including multimedia journalism, opinion coverage, newsletters, audio, investigative reporting, and so much more to fuel learning and understanding.

Sewanee's subscription to The New York Times website provides access to breaking news as well as blogs and other online content not included in the Library's databases that cover the paper. On the other hand, the databases allow access to the paper’s content and more powerful searching capabilities. Students, faculty, and staff who wish to use The New York Times for research purposes should access the paper via the following means:
