OverDrive - The Basics

The Library has eBooks and eAudioBooks from OverDrive.

You can enjoy titles directly in a browser or download and use the OverDrive app on Android, Chromebooks, iOS, Fire tablets, and Windows 8/10. See the sidebar at left for instructions.

  • You will need to provide your barcode number from your university ID or library card when you are ready to check out and download titles.
  • You may check out 3 titles at a time.
  • ebooks and eAudioBooks check out for 14 days.
  • Borrowed titles will automatically return at the end of the lending period. You can also return titles early to free up space in your library account.

To view or listen on a mobile device, use either Libby or the OverDrive app.

To use OverDrive on your computer, follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to Sewanee.overdrive.com.
Step 2: Sign up for an account and use the barcode number from your library card or University ID for verification.
Step 4:  Borrow a title
Step 5: After you borrow a title, you can:

  • Select Read now with Kindle (U.S. only) to complete checkout on Amazon's website and send the book to your Kindle device or Kindle reading app.
  • Select Download to download EPUB ebooks and MP3 audiobooks to the app Bookshelf.
  • Close the pop-up window to keep browsing and borrowing.
