You automatically join the library when you join the University.

Your University ID card is also your library card - you need it to borrow books, journals and other materials. Treat this as you would your bank card and don't share your details.

You can access resources, advice and further information on our website.

Check the status to see if the book is available or checked out.
If the book is available, note down the location and call number (where you will find the book on the shelves).

For quick, easy access to the resources your professors are recommending, click on the Reserves tab on the search box on the library’s home page.

How do I check out a book?

Use the self-service point located on the first floor or go to the service desk.
Currently, fines are charged on late returned books.

What if the book I want has been checked out by someone else?

If all the copies of the book you need are out on loan, you can place a hold or recall on the book.

What if I need the book longer?

You can renew your books online if they are not needed by anyone else. Log into My Library and renew.

The Library has many tables, some comfy seating areas, and some open carrels (not assigned to anyone) spread throughout the building.

Eating and Drinking

There are vending machines in the ATC (Academic Technology Center) on the ground floor of the library.
You can eat snacks and hot and cold drinks in the library apart from in some clearly marked areas.

Cell Phones

Please set your phone to silent when you enter the library. Mobile phones can disturb people working in the study areas.

Talking and Noise

The library has different types of study areas. The Third Floor is a quiet floor.
If you need to work together or if you just want to relax with friends, please make sure that you are not on the Third Floor. You may want to use a group study room. They are first come, first served. Inquire at the Service Desk on the first floor.

For Students, Faculty, and Staff:

• Black and white printing, copying, and scanning: FREE
• Color printing and copying: 50¢ per page

For Community Members:

• Scanning: FREE
• Black and white printing and copying: 15¢ per page
• Color printing: $1.00 per page

• All users must register for wireless network access.
• Students, faculty, and staff should only have to do this once with each wireless device.
• Guests should connect to the "Sewanee-Open" network, and follow the instructions for creating an account.

• Computers with Internet on all floors
• People not affiliated with the University are asked to use those on the main floor.
• Access for students, faculty, and staff: email username and Banner password
• Other users: inquire at the service desk to apply for a login

In order to qualify for a library card, patrons must be affiliated with:

• The University of the South
• St. Andrew’s-Sewanee (SAS) school
• A permanent resident of Sewanee
• A permanent resident of Franklin County
• A permanent resident of one of the Tennessee counties bordering Franklin County

In addition, visiting scholars and family members of faculty and staff are also eligible for library privileges. See our Library Card page for more information.

Music:

• Loan period: 3 days; no renewals
• Borrowing limit: 3 CDs at a time

Movies:

• Loan period: 3 days; no renewals
• Borrowing limit: 3 DVDs at a time
• Patrons must be 18 or older to check out R-rated or Mature-Rated movies.

Audio Books:

• Loan period: 5 weeks
• Borrowing limit: 3 audio books at a time
