In our main lobby display area this month we are featuring banned graphic novels. Despite the genre being a relative newbie in the literary scene, 3 out of the top 10 banned books for 2023 were graphic novels. The popularity of graphic novels has also garnered attention from organizations who wish to censor this material. To learn more about banned books please visit ala.org/bbooks. All of our display items may be checked out, and you can view a title list here.
Also, you can access hundreds of comics and graphic novels online with the hoopla app! Learn more about hoopla here.
National Hispanic American Heritage Month is a time to pay tribute to generations of Hispanic and Latinx Americans who have influenced and raised our nation and society. From a poetic perspective, Hispanic and Latinx work often gets overlooked and consistently underappreciated. From the historic voices of Lorca and Neruda to the contemporary accomplishments of Salgado and Monet, this cultural facet needs to be seen, read, and lifted for the marvel that it is and encompasses. You can find our display in the Ann Jackson Children's Collection. All of the books may be checked out, and you can view a title list here.
Celebrate the history of the American Labor Movement with our featured display in the Newspaper section. View a title list here.
