Rev. William S. Clairborne

A former rector of Otey Parish, the Rev. William S. Claiborne grew up in Virginia and enrolled in Sewanee in 1898. In 1901, he was ordained by Bishop Gailor and was appointed Archdeacon of Sewanee in 1913. During World War I, he served as Chaplain with the 167th Infantry, 42nd Division, and advanced to the rank of First Lieutenant.
