November 2024 - Transgender Day of Remembrance, and “Indigenuity”

by Pat Dover on 2024-11-01T09:41:00-05:00 | 0 Comments

"Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester's death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance." - GLAAD.Trans voices are represented in this display with poetry, memoirs, non-fiction, and documentaries. A title list is available here.

“Indigenuity” (Indigenous ingenuity) is described by Daniel Wildcat, Ph.D., as “ the application of deep-spatial wisdom held by Indigenous Peoples, e.g., American Indians and Alaska Natives, to solve practical problems we face today” (monah.org/indigenuity).

Visit our display in the Children’s section for indigenous science, stories, traditions, and recipes. A title list is available here.
